What Does It Do?

OCP VideoPOPOUT is a Google Chrome extension, Firefox add-on, and cross-browser bookmarklet that allows you to pop out videos from popular sites like:

http://www.youtube.com

http://www.vimeo.com

http://www.megavideo.com

http://video.yahoo.com

etc…

This is the most robust tool of its kind out there and also works for videos embedded in forums/blogs. To use it, you simply visit a video site/blog/forum/etc.. and press the the bookmarklet or the flower button (for Google Chrome extension) that runs OCP VideoPOPOUT. It is as simple as that.

Google Chrome Extension:

The Google Chrome extension of OCP VideoPOPOUT is much more robust than the bookmarklet and is my recommended way of using it. Visit the OCP VideoPOPOUT Google Chrome extension page to get it: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/ohmlgoicejanegjllehmgbngpabllbhh?hl=en

When installed, you will see a new flower button on the right hand side of the browser. Click on the flower when you are on a site that has a video you want to pop out.

Firefox Add-on:

The Firefox add-on version has just been uploaded to Mozilla Add-ons site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/197221/

OCP VideoPOPOUT Bookmarklet

The bookmarklet has been tested on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and loads OCP VideoPOPOUT from the project’s Google Code page. Note that for both browsers, you will have to allow the pop up blocker to open a new window when using the bookmarklet. The Google Chrome extension does not suffer from this limitation, and I highly recommend you use the Google Chrome extension if at all possible. Note that you usually have to allow javascript to execute and allow the sites you are using through your flash blocker.

This bookmarklet may also work on other browsers but has not been tested yet. Try it out on the video below by clicking on the bookmarklet:

Important Note

On non-YouTube sites, OCP VideoPOPOUT will extract the videos and disable them on the webpage to prevent having two simultaneous videos running. Many video sites only allow you to have one streaming copy of the same video at the same time. You may see some garbled text on the web page after running OCP VideoPOPOUT. Simply reload the page if necessary.
